CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Cav Futures, the NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) collective supporting University of Virginia student-athletes, has announced the launch of Cav Futures Foundation. The 501(c)(3) nonprofit will serve as a complementary entity to Cav Futures and is dedicated to educational programming around personal growth and development, mental health advocacy, financial literacy, brand strategy, and community engagement.
Funding will be used to provide this educational programming, as well professional development opportunities such as networking events and internships. The Foundation also recognizes the immense pressure student-athletes face, and will introduce new mental health resources to support UVA student-athletes throughout their time on Grounds and beyond.
Contributions will also assist in expanding NIL opportunities for all UVA athletic programs and give today’s Cavaliers the chance to leverage their personal platforms in support of local, state, and national charities.
“This is about more than just bringing NIL opportunities to Charlottesville. This Foundation will allow us to provide essential programming and support as we help student-athletes to leave their own legacy here,” said Cav Futures Executive Director Lo Davis, who will also serve as executive director of the Foundation. “Ultimately, the mission is to prepare student-athletes to leave Grounds with confidence, connections, and a strong foundation for their future.”
“It’s no secret that student-athletes are drawn to the University of Virginia for the quality of education and community here. With the Foundation in place, we can enhance their experience and make sure our Hoos get the most out of their time in Charlottesville," shared Cav Futures Director of Marketing and Athlete Engagement Maddie Walsh. She will work closely with both the NIL collective and Foundation.
The Foundation Board will be led by Board President & UVA Women’s Rowing Alumna Valerie Morini (UVA ’07). Morini shared “We are committed to ensuring that Cav Futures Foundation has the ability to provide the education, mentorship, industry opportunities, and an expansive network of relationships across the full value chain of the Virginia Athletics community. While the focus of NIL is on student-athletes, we have the opportunity to expand the broader value proposition beyond current athletes to build engagement opportunities for all alumni to give back and benefit in ways that are more than financial, re-connecting us to ourselves and each other…”
