Charlottesville,VA - November 11, 2022:  Cavalier Futures launched back in March 2022 with the simple goals of bringing more name, image, likeness (NIL) opportunities to UVA student-athletes and providing new resources for their long-term personal and professional development. The details of what, how, and when would soon follow. As we began to collaborate with Virginia student-athletes and get to know the various teams, today’s Cavaliers immediately began shaping everything that we did. They brainstormed content and collaborated on events. They shared their goals and provided guidance for what resources would be most helpful. Funny enough, they even gave us a new nickname - “Cav Futures.”

Now a little over six months into this thing, we’ve decided to continue letting student-athletes take the lead. This includes embracing the name Cav Futures and introducing a whole new look to match our newfound cool kid identity (we’re just trying to be as cool as the students we work with). Beyond the aesthetics, the student-athletes’ input has also helped to clarify our vision and shift the priorities. Along with the rebrand, we are announcing a renewed emphasis on community service (more details coming soon). 

We are also doubly-committed to prioritizing accessible opportunities for student-athletes across all sports teams. The first of which is evidenced by our partnership with Fans Meet Idols. This terrific new partner opens the door for any Cav Futures athlete to create and launch their own merchandise collection with over 200 potential items available. The process is simple, straightforward, and athlete-oriented. 

“This is a terrific partnership for us,” said Executive Director Lo Davis.  “It adds more exciting options to our current offerings for student-athletes and is a great complement to existing partnerships we have in place.”

“As NIL continues to take shape, our platform makes generating NIL income from Fans easy and compliant,” said Fans Meet Idols Founder, Steve Kennedy. 

As we look to the near future, there are more exciting changes to come. Cav Futures is looking forward to expanding our organization and building on the meaningful foundation we have established here in Charlottesville. Most importantly, we look forward to working closely with our student-athletes to keep UVA at the forefront of the NIL era.
